Diversity workshop Sept. 6

All employees are invited to “Diversity, Inclusion and Cultural Competence,” noon - 2 pm Thursday, Sept. 6, SRC Cronin Auditorium. Sponsored by the HSC Diversity and Inclusion Council, this free workshop includes a light lunch. Register on Employee Self Service (course #28274).

Occupational Medicine Sherman Avenue reopened

The Occupational Medicine and Wellness Services office at 175 Sherman Ave., 5th floor, has reopened following renovations. Regular business hours are 8 am -5 pm Monday - Friday.

PPD surveys must be completed by Sept. 10

All employees who have been notified that they need to complete an online PPD survey on Employee Self Service must do so before Sept. 10. Employee Self Service will be taken off-line in preparation for the Infor launch.

Mindfulness class for employees

Employee and Family Resources (EFR) will hold Mindful Solutions, a free, five-week course for employees, 12:30 - 1:30 pm Fridays, Sept. 14 - Oct. 12, Institute for Excellence, 300 George St., room 145B. Classes will cover techniques to become more aware of the present moment and tap into a peaceful state amidst the chaos of a hectic life. “Better bites” program starts Sept. 20

Whether trying to improve overall wellness, lose weight, reduce diabetes or heart disease risk or control an existing health condition, many people find it challenging to stick to the eating plan that’s best for them. To help, YNHH’s Center for Nutrition and Wellness is offering the Better Bites program, 12:15 - 12:45 pm Thursdays, Sept. 20 - Oct. 25, York Street Campus. The series will cover best food choices, meal planning, grocery shopping, staying motivated and other topics. Classes are taught by YNHH registered dietitian- nutritionists and are covered under YNHH health plans without copays or deductibles. Prostate cancer awareness events Sept. 27 and 28

Smilow Cancer Hospital will host information tables on prostate cancer, 11 am - 2 pm Thursday, Sept. 27, Saint Raphael Campus cafeteria entrance, and 11 am - 2 pm Friday, Sept. 28, York Street Campus cafeteria entrance. September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

Alzheimer’s Association walk Sept. 30

“New Approaches to Problems in Endocrinology” is the focus of the 41st Annual Maxwell Bogin, MD, Lectures in Pediatrics, 8 am - 2 pm Wednesday, Oct. 10, Trumbull Marriott. Topics include “Closing the Loop on Managing Youth with Type 1 Diabetes: Advances Toward a True Artificial Pancreas,” “Abnormalities of Growth and Puberty in the Childhood Cancer Survivor” and “There are Gender Dysphoric (transgender) Patients in your Office, in Hospitals and ERs. How Can We Help Them?”

Grab a rake and show you care

Yale New Haven Hospital seeks volunteers to help clean up area parks and gardens as part of United Way of Greater New Haven’s Day of Caring Saturday, Oct 13. The hospital is partnering with Yale University and the New Haven Parks Department to spruce up a number of parks in the community. The event runs 9 am - 3 pm; donate as much time as you like.
