Spiritual Care announces Lenten schedule

York Street Campus: All services will be in the Chapel, first floor, South Pavilion. Catholic Masses will be celebrated each Thursday during Lent at noon. On Palm Sunday, March 29, a Mass will be held at 9:30 am. On Good Friday, April 3, an ecumenical service will be held at noon. On Easter Sunday, April 5, a Mass will be held at 9:30 am and a Protestant service at 10:30 am. Saint Raphael Campus: All services will be in the Chapel, Main 1. Catholic Masses will be held at 7:30 am and noon Monday-Friday during Lent. A Vigil Mass will be held Saturday, March 28 at 4 pm. On Palm Sunday, March 29, a Mass will be held at 7:30 am. On Easter Sunday, April 5, a Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 am and a Protestant service at 10 am.



Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds March 10

Employees are invited to Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds, 5-6:30 pm Tuesday, March 10, Fitkin Auditorium. The speaker is Kenneth Davis, MD, president and chief executive officer, Mount Sinai Health System. The talk is part of a series designed to help employees and physicians enhance their clinical leadership by learning from national and international experts on improvement science. Social Work information tables March 10-12

In honor of National Social Work Month in March, YNHH's Social Work department will have information tables at the York Street Campus, 11:30 am-1:30 pm Tuesday, March 10, Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12, East Pavilion Cafeteria; and at the Saint Raphael Campus, 11:30 am-1:30 pm Wednesday, March 11, cafeteria. Social Workers will provide information on the department and its services.



Call for abstracts: Joseph A. Zaccagnino Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Conference

The deadline for abstract submissions for the 2015 Joseph A. Zaccagnino Patient Safety and Clinical Quality Conference is Monday, March 23. A submission form and guidelines will be on the YNHHS Performance Management website: On the system intranet page, click "departments" in the top navigation bar, then "Performance Management" on the list. All groups who submit an abstract are asked to display a poster of their work at the conference. The conference will be 9 am-2:30 pm Tuesday, May 19 at the Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport. Breast imaging lecture March 19

The Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary will present a free community health lecture, "Novel Approaches to Breast Imaging: 3D Mammography and Screening Ultrasound" at 6 pm Thursday, March 19, Cronin Auditorium, Saint Raphael Campus. Liane Philpotts, MD, YNHH chief of Breast Imaging, will discuss how tomosynthesis (3D mammography) is revolutionizing the practice of breast imaging. Certified Nurses Day March 19

YNHH will celebrate National Certified Nurses Day Monday, March 19 with information fairs at both campuses. At the Saint Raphael Campus, the fair will be 6:30-9:30 am in the Selina Lewis Building, lower level. Sue Fitzsimons, RN, PhD, senior vice president, Patient Services, will speak at 7 am. At the York Street Campus, the fair will be 6-11:30 am in the East Pavilion Cafeteria special events area; Fitzsimons will speak at 10 am. At the fairs, certified clinical nurses will provide information on certification in oncology, emergency, critical care, medical/surgical, pediatric, perioperative and other nursing specialties. YNHH reimburses nurses who successfully pass an approved certification exam or a re-certification exam.



Employees invited to join 28-day diet challenge

To celebrate National Nutrition Month in March, YNHH's registered dietitians encourage employees to enroll in one of the Nutrition Clinic's 28-day diet challenges: sugar detox, focus on fiber, sodium busters or go lean for heart health. The enrollment deadline is March 20, and there are two ways to participate:

  • For an online-only program email nutrition and type the challenge you are taking in the subject line. You will receive weekly PowerPoint presentations with information and tips.
  • For an office visit and online program call the Nutrition Clinic, 203.688.2422, to make an appointment with a dietitian (covered by the YNHHS benefits plan) during the week of March 23. Participants will also receive weekly PowerPoint presentations after their initial consult with the dietitian.

Participants who complete brief pre- and post-program surveys will be entered into a raffle for gift cards. Also during March, the Nutrition Department will host food demonstrations Wednesdays, 11:30 am-1 pm, March 11 through April 1, in the East Pavilion Cafeteria on the York Street Campus and the Allspice Cafeteria on the Saint Raphael Campus.



Pediatric sleep laboratory opens

Yale New Haven Children's Hospital has opened a new Pediatric Sleep Center at its Bridgeport Hospital Campus. The new facility, along with the pediatric sleep laboratory at YNHCH's York Street Campus, provides nighttime and daytime sleep studies as part of its overall mission to diagnose and treat insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, restless leg syndrome, sleep disturbance, narcolepsy, sleep apnea and other respiratory and non-respiratory sleep problems. Hospital seeks team members for AIDS Walk April 12

YNHH is a sponsor of AIDS Walk New Haven, Sunday, April 12. Registration is at 1 pm; the walk begins at 2:30 pm on the New Haven Green. Funds raised are donated to seven member agencies of the New Haven Mayor's Task Force on AIDS, which advocates for education and prevention strategies and comprehensive health and social services for people living with and affected by HIV. YNHH recognized for alternative transportation options

For the third consecutive year, the Best Workplaces for Commuters program has awarded Yale New Haven Hospital its gold medal standard for being among the top 25 organizations nationwide offering employees alternative transportation options. Best Workplaces recognizes employers that meet or exceed the national standard of excellence in commuter benefits created by the National Center for Transit Research and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. At Best Workplace's Jan. 29 virtual awards ceremony, YNHH was further recognized as a "best of" winner among 2014 honorees. YNHH's Transportation Demand Management program offers alternatives to single-occupancy vehicle use, with shuttle services, public transportation subsidies, car- and van-pooling and other alternatives. The program helps address parking challenges; demonstrates environmental excellence by reducing gasoline demand, greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution; and exhibits corporate citizenship.
