YNHH is offering Live Well and Lose It, a group weight-management class for employees and their adult dependents that is covered under the Yale New Haven Health System benefits plan with no copay or deductible. The eight-week program, taught by hospital registered dietitians, includes a 30-minute lecture on topics such as best food choices, portions, dining out, healthy cooking, staying motivated and stress-related eating. It also includes a confidential weigh-in and assistance with goal-setting. Classes are available at 7:30 am, 12:15 pm and 4:30 pm Wednesdays, April 29-June 17, York Street Campus; Thursdays at 12:15 pm, April 30-June 18, Saint Raphael Campus; and 7:30 am at the Long Wharf location. The hospital will hold Understanding Retirement Healthcare (Medicare) workshops for employees, noon - 1 pm Tuesday, May 5, room CH 201, York Street Campus, and noon - 1 pm Wednesday, May 6, Selina Lewis Multipurpose Room, Saint Raphael Campus. This workshop will cover important pre- and post-retirement healthcare decisions, including what Medicare does and does not cover. Employees are invited to Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds, 5 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, May 12, Fitkin Auditorium. The speaker is Elizabeth Howell, MD, associate professor, departments of Psychiatry and Population Health Science & Policy and Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. The talk is part of a series designed to help employees and physicians enhance their clinical leadership by learning from national and international experts on improvement science. At the International Stroke Conference in February, the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognized Yale New Haven Hospital as an Elite Target Stroke hospital. Hospitals awarded this designation have administered intravenous tPA medications to dissolve blood clots within 60 minutes of ischemic stroke patients' arrival at least 75 percent of the time over the period of a year.
