The Travel and Tropical Medicine program provides personalized consultation and clinical care for individuals preparing for travel outside the United States and for those returning with infections. We offer expert pre-and-post-travel care to help keep travelers healthy by providing vaccinations and preventative plans for safe international travel. For patients with infections or illness contracted abroad, we provide an evaluation and treatment plan.
Our comprehensive pre-travel consultations guide adults travelling outside of the United States to ensure safe travel. We collaborate with individuals to anticipate potential exposures and identify potential infections that can be prevented. Depending on the reasoning for travel, each patient consultation is tailored to the individual based on their destination, itinerary, length of stay, access to health care while travelling, and their medical history. We provide vaccines, medications to prevent infections like malaria, and advise on staying safe during travel. We also discuss emergency treatment options and safety concerns for non-infectious high-risk activities, such as high-altitude exposure, scuba diving and any violence concerns raised by the U.S. State Department.
Our team provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for returning travelers with fevers, atypical bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic diseases, particularly those conditions that disproportionately occur in tropical and sub-tropical regions. We also care for individuals with infections associated with long-term residence or exposure abroad.
