Oncovascular Program

Overview

The Oncovascular Program at Smilow Cancer Hospital provides a highly specialized approach to cancer care by combining advanced cancer treatment with vascular surgery expertise. Tumors that grow close to or around major blood vessels are among the most challenging to treat and have often been considered inoperable. By uniting experienced cancer surgeons with expert vascular surgeons from Yale New Haven Health’s Heart and Vascular Center, our team is available to evaluate these complex tumors for possible removal while repairing the affected blood vessels—giving patients greater chances of long-term disease control or even cure.

Our Oncovascular Program also offers second opinions for patients who have been told their tumors are not operable. Each case is carefully reviewed by a dedicated team of surgical oncologists and vascular surgeons who work together to explore all possible treatment options, including surgery. Even when surgery is not an option, patients can be evaluated for other treatment options at Smilow Cancer Hospital including non-invasive treatments such as radiotherapy and cutting-edge clinical trials. Our physicians are committed to providing access to innovative therapies that were once unavailable, offering hope and expertise for even the most difficult diagnoses.
