U.S. News & World Report recognizes six Yale New Haven Children’s subspecialties

Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, the top-ranked children’s hospital in Connecticut and second-ranked hospital in New England, has been selected among the best children’s hospitals in the nation for six out of 10 pediatric subspecialties in the U.S. News & World Report 2021-22 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings.

YNHCH ranked in diabetes and endocrinology (#6); neonatology (#27); nephrology (#27); gastroenterology and GI surgery (#37); pulmonology and lung surgery (#43); and neurology and neurosurgery (#47).

“Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital is once again among the elite hospitals for pediatric patients, not only in the region but in the United States,” said Clifford Bogue, MD, physician-in-chief and chief medical officer, YNHCH, and chair of pediatrics, Yale School of Medicine.

“Everyone at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital is committed to providing the best possible care for children and their families, and that dedication is reflected in these national rankings,” said Cynthia Sparer, Yale New Haven Hospital senior vice president, Operations, and YNHCH executive director. “Our consistent ranking each year as Connecticut’s top children’s hospital means families from across our state and region benefit greatly. Vital to improving outcomes and supporting the growth of our programs is our nationally recognized leadership in quality and safety initiatives, and our commitment to recruiting and retaining top physicians and hospital staff.”

During the past year, as YNHCH had to redirect many resources to care for COVID-19 patients, the Children’s Hospital developed novel treatments for multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C). YNHCH launched the Children’s Post-COVID Comprehensive Care Center to help children with long-term symptoms. The Children’s Hospital also became the first and only pediatric hospital in our region approved by the United Network for Organ Sharing for heart transplant, and performed a successful heart transplant in a pediatric patient. These accomplishments displayed the breadth and depth of the Children’s Heart Center team. YNHCH also became one of only three hospitals in the world to install the state-of-the art Embrace® Neonatal MRI system, providing enhanced care in the NNICU.
