Borgstrom and Peter N. Herbert, MD, Yale New Haven Hospital Advanced Nursing Education Scholarships. The scholarships provide tuition assistance of up to $10,000 annually to qualified employees working toward advanced nursing education to meet requirements for an APRN license. From April 1 - 30, Yale New Haven Health System will accept applications for the Betty Ruth Hollander Engineering and Science Scholarships. The scholarships are open to children and grandchildren of health system employees, including full- and part-time employees of Yale New Haven, Bridgeport, Greenwich, Lawrence + Memorial and Westerly hospitals and the Grimes Center. Children or grandchildren who have been admitted as undergraduates to Yale College to major in engineering or science may apply; applicants may also be current engineering or science undergraduates at Yale. Yale New Haven Health will celebrate National Donate Life Month in April by increasing awareness about organ and tissue donor registration and living donation. Yale New Haven Transplantation Center is one of the nation’s top transplant programs and has experienced surgeons with expertise in living-donor liver and kidney transplants. According to Donate Life America, more than 110,000 men, women and children await lifesaving organ transplants with more than 80 percent waiting for a kidney and 12 percent in need of a liver. More than 156 million people are registered organ, eye and tissue donors. To register to be an organ donor, visit Donate Life New England or Donate Life America. You can also express your wish to become a donor when you receive or renew your driver’s license at the DMV.
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is committed to taking all COVID-19 precautionary measures to keep patients, employees and the community healthy and safe. Until further notice, all in-person Diversity and Inclusion classes are canceled, but four electronic (e-learn) classes are available for employees to take on their YNHHS or remote computers. Yale New Haven Hospital has been honored by Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC) for the ninth year. A BWC evaluation found that at least 14 percent of YNHH employees get to work by means other than driving alone. The organization also lauded the hospital’s efforts to address employees’ concerns about challenges such as traffic congestion and carbon emissions, along with commuter benefits that include shuttle services, public transportation subsidies and car- and van-pooling. Staff from across Yale New Haven Health System, Yale Medicine and Yale School of Medicine are invited to submit abstracts for presentation at the 2020 Joseph A. Zaccagnino Safety, Quality and Experience Conference slated for June 9 at the Oakdale Theatre, Wallingford. Abstracts are due April 13. A recent update to the Infor Learning Management System provides employees with an improved interface that puts assigned learning courses front and center, making it easier to manage assignments and launch courses. User dashboards now feature the My Assignment To-Do List, which displays assigned courses according to due date. The most urgent courses will be displayed at the top of the list.
