Under construction: A new way to manage Human Resources

For over a year, 12 members of Yale New Haven Health System’s Human Resources team have been preparing for the July 1 launch of Project Infor, the health system’s new enterprise resource planning solution. They are among many employees from a variety of roles who are on the Infor team.

They’ve been busy.

Infor is similar to Epic, but for non-clinical business operations. It includes various software tools to help staff in Finance, HR and Supply Chain plan, carry out and improve the business side of providing health care. Infor Human Resources (Infor HR) changes that will be most visible to a majority of YNHHS employees include:

  • New “Employee Space” and “Manager Space” pages, replacing today’s Employee Self Service and Manager Self Service. The new pages are intuitive, easier to navigate and allow users to go directly to frequently used sections, such as “My Paycheck,” “Manage PTO,” “My Schedule” and others.
  • An online Learning Management System that will combine HealthStream, Skillport, Institute for Excellence (IFE) training and other courses into one application.

Infor HR also includes enhancements that HR staff and managers will use, such as centralized, streamlined processes for recruiting, hiring and onboarding employees across the health system.

Anne Andrews, executive director, YNHHS Corporate HRIS, is leading the Infor HR team. She likens their work to building and moving into a house. “Infor HR provides the framework, like the walls of the house,” she said. “We have to put everything inside.”

To prepare for the “move,” Infor HR team members have been working with managers throughout HR and other departments to review policies, procedures, job titles and descriptions and other information from all YNHHS delivery networks. Step two has involved consolidating and standardizing the information and processes that will become part of Infor HR. This consistency will enhance the ability of the health system’s Talent Acquisition staff to recruit for jobs, and will facilitate candidates’ job searches, Andrews said.

Despite the amount of preparation involved, she is excited about Infor HR.

“Our team has been working hard to develop a tool that will ultimately make it easier for all employees and managers to do their jobs,” she said. “Just as Epic transformed clinical operations, Infor will take the health system’s business operations to the next level.”
