PEACE recipients announced

These employees received PEACE (Patient Experience Awards for Caring and Excellence) for going above and beyond to meet patients’ and families’ needs.

York Street Campus

peace award

The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SP 6-1) staff was honored for compassion and teamwork in patient-centered care. They recently cared for a patient who had been on the unit for several months with multiple complications after a complex surgical procedure. The patient, who is on a ventilator, had been experiencing bouts of depression. Staff pulled together to cheer him up, bringing plants to brighten his room, taking him outside to the healing garden, singing songs and dancing and spending extra time with him. Their efforts resulted in many smiles and thumbs-up from the patient.

Saint Raphael Campus

peace award

Susan Howard, RN, Heart and Vascular Center Cardiac Step Down unit (Verdi 3 East), was recognized for going above and beyond for a stranger. While walking to her car after work, she saw an obviously intoxicated young woman who had dropped her belongings and was staggering along the sidewalk while being followed closely by two people. When the woman fell into the street and did not get up, Howard ran to assist her, prompting the two people to leave. Howard walked the woman to the Emergency Department, stopping to retrieve her purse and other belongings, and ensured she got the care she needed for her injuries.

All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for the monthly PEACE recognition. Send nominations to: [email protected].
