Founders’ Day features special guests, unveiling of new timeline panels

Yale New Haven Hospital’s annual Founders’ Day celebration honors the legacy of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, founders of the former Hospital of Saint Raphael. This year’s event will be Nov. 11 and feature special guests and activites. All members of the YNHH community are invited.

Special guests Sister Maureen Shaughnessy, the Sisters of Charity’s newly-elected general superior, and the Rev. Msgr. John Georgia, pastor at Resurrection Church in Wallingford, will participate in the interfaith service, “Gratitude,” beginning at 1 pm in the Saint Raphael Campus chapel. YNHHS CEO Marna Borgstrom, President Richard D’Aquila, Executive Vice President Chris O’Connor and leaders and employees from many departments across the hospital and health system will also participate in the service. Patients and staff unable to attend can watch it live on the SRC Chapel Channel.

Immediately following the service, two panels on the SRC’s pictorial timeline will be unveiled and blessed. The pictorial timeline is located in “Memory Lane,” the hallway leading to the shuttle stop. One existing panel has been updated; the other is a new panel highlighting SRC activities since 2017 and showcasing the future of the campus through renderings of the planned neurosciences center.

“When the former Hospital of Saint Raphael joined YNHH in 2012, we were pleased to commit to honor that campus’ Catholic heritage and the sponsorship of the Sisters of Charity,” D’Aquila said. “The SRC historical timeline, initially unveiled in 2016, provides a permanent tribute to the legacy of the Sisters of Charity and the campus. It is immensely popular, and was designed to be expanded. We are extremely pleased that Sister Maureen and Msgr. Georgia will join us to celebrate Founders’ Day and help unveil the timeline’s newest additions.”

Founders’ Day events will conclude with a reception outside the chapel.
