Psychiatric Inpatient Experience measure

Practitioners and scholars with Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital and Yale School of Medicine have developed the Psychiatric Inpatient Patient Experience (PIX) measure, which integrates patient experience theories with crucial facets of care pertinent to psychiatric inpatients’ everyday experiences. The PIX also provides feedback for the organization and each discipline.

The 26-question PIX measure covers these domains of patient experience:

  • Treatment Team Relationship
  • Healing Environment
  • Treatment Effectiveness
  • Nursing Team Presence

We have compiled a toolkit of resources outlining a practical blueprint for hospital leaders and teams to implement a sustainable patient experience program built around the PIX Survey. It is not a regulatory manual, and it does not replace official CMS guidelines. Instead, it complements them with field-tested practices, examples, and templates to help hospitals succeed under real-world resource constraints.

Your voice matters to us. Our team is committed to enhancing mental healthcare outcomes through innovative solutions and personalized care. Let’s work together to make a difference.
