New angiography unit can reduce the need for surgery

The Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) recently added a single-plane angiography unit at Yale New Haven Hospital’s Saint Raphael Campus. The unit, used for complex interventional radiology (IR) procedures, supports image-guided, non-surgical treatments. This approach often reduces the need for traditional surgery. The IR team includes interventional radiologists, nurses and IR technologists. In front of the new unit are (l-r): Francine LoRusso, RN, senior vice president, Operations, and executive director, Heart and Vascular Services, Transplantation Center, Medicine and Radiology services, Yale New Haven Health; Pamela Sutton-Wallace, executive vice president and chief operating officer, YNHHS; David Madoff, MD, professor of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging and Medical Oncology and section chief, Interventional Radiology at Yale School of Medicine (YSM); Elizabeth Fletcher, DNP, RN, vice president, Heart and Vascular Services, YNHH; and interventional radiologists Juan Carlos Perez Lozada, MD, associate professor of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, YSM, and Rahmat Ali, MD, assistant professor of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, YSM.
