Protective Services offers seasonal safety tips

With shorter days, more employees are walking in the dark, particularly to and from parking areas. Protective Services offers these tips:

  • Be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity or people by dialing 911 or using the See Say Now app on your smartphone (log in to Infor and select ELERTS to get the app).
  • Use hospital shuttles instead of walking to and from your vehicle, or when traveling between campuses. Download the Ride Systems App to check shuttle schedules and locations on your phone.
  • Request a Protective Services vehicle or walking escort: York Street Campus (203-688-2500), Saint Raphael Campus (203-789-3800)
  • If you do walk to and from your vehicle, establish a buddy system, and have the See Say Now App open and ready to use if necessary.
  • Whenever possible, park in well-lit areas. Extra lighting has been installed on the walkway between the YSC and employee parking lots, and Protective Services is patrolling the lots periodically.
  • Always have your keys ready so you can enter your vehicle quickly. Once inside, immediately lock your doors.
  • If someone threatens you or demands your possessions, hand the items over. Do not engage the person
  • Be cautious inside our facilities, especially when alone in elevators or stairwells.
  • When possible, avoid carrying handbags, totes and backpacks. Conceal jewelry and high-value items while outside hospital facilities.
  • Always wear your employee ID badge above the waist and keep it visible at all times.
  • If you see something or someone suspicious, take evasive action and don’t be afraid to call for help.
