Learn How to Manage Your Cholesterol

The longstanding belief that eggs will raise your cholesterol is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Sure, eggs do contain cholesterol, but it takes more than avoiding omelets to unscramble your numbers and accurately evaluate your risks for cardiovascular disease.

“When a person’s cholesterol gets too high it can begin to cause plaque buildup in the arteries that can lead to cardiovascular disease, including heart attack and stroke,” said Meghana Rao Brito, MD, a cardiologist with the Heart and Vascular Center at Yale New Haven Health and assistant professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. “That’s why prevention is key.”

Yale New Haven Health offers “Curb Your Cholesterol," a self-monitoring program to help you reduce your cholesterol levels. This program gives you tools to improve your cholesterol numbers and includes weekly coaching sessions. The program is ideal for those diagnosed with high cholesterol levels or other heart-related conditions. Learn more about the program by calling 203- 688-9010.
